About Silvana
My passion in yoga is to share my knowledge to help people who are suffering from a variety of physical and psychological conditions. Not only do I specialize in the practice of yoga at my studio, Yogaspace, but I also volunteer at the Multiple Sclerosis Society and The Attention Deficit Disorder Association and have completed extensive mind/body training at the Connecticut Mind/Body Institute and with Herbert Benson at Harvard Medical School.
I began to explore yoga nearly 30 years ago, as I was trying to ease my own severe back pain. Through my yoga practice, I was able to manage my pain non-surgically – and I still do. For me, yoga has also been a way to cope with stress, to stay centered through the years of raising my family and amidst various health challenges and to maintain a general sense of well-being.
I have studied and practiced Iyengar Yoga for more than 20 years and have been a certified instructor since 1999. In 2000 I traveled to Pune, India, to study directly with the Iyengar family. I have also trained with well-known and highly respected instructors here in the United States, including Mary Dunn in New York. Patricia Walden in Cambridge, MA and Gabriella Giubilaro in Florence, Italy, are my mentors.
I was born and raised in Italy, where I earned a BA from La Sapienza University in Rome. Here in the US, I have also earned an Associate’s Degree in languages from Empire State College in New York. I started studying Chinese Medicine after I quit my corporate job and was an instructor of Oriental Healing Arts at the Ohashi Institute in New York. I have lived in Fairfield County for more than 20 years. My husband Sandy Stein, MD, is a psychiatrist in Stamford and we have two grown sons.

I invite you to come with an open mind and heart and the rest will follow!
Please feel free to call (203-253-3261) or email with your questions and concerns – I assure you, I won’t consider it an intrusion and I welcome the opportunity to discuss with you how yoga can help manage your own health problems.
